SolarWinds Backup is a versatile and highly regarded solution that addresses various data backup needs. It serves as a reliable disaster recovery solution for main servers such as Active Directory, Exchange Server, and ERP Server. MSPs and their clients benefit from its safe and secure backup option. The software is user-friendly and easy to deploy, enabling users to monitor and back up all devices for a client through SolarWinds NCentral. This feature significantly reduces the need for technical support, making it a preferred choice among salespeople and value-added resellers. With its dependable security measures and straightforward installation process, SolarWinds Backup ensures data safety while providing a seamless user experience.

Another use case for data protection is Cove, which offers backup solutions for contract customers. It safeguards against ransomware attacks and facilitates data recovery from accidental deletions or hardware failures. MSPs rely on Cove to back up servers and workstations for managed clients, including disaster recovery and server migration scenarios. The software's versatility is evident in its ability to handle image backups, file and folder backups, as well as specific database backups in various companies. Additionally, N-able Backup is widely used by organizations and customers as their primary backup solution for servers, workstations, and Microsoft 365. This comprehensive software not only ensures secure data backup but also provides quick backups with intelligent increments. It simplifies backup management through a single dashboard, saving users from the threat of cryptolockers and streamlining their backup workflows.

In summary, SolarWinds Backup and its associated solutions like Cove and N-able Backup are trusted tools that address critical data loss issues while offering reliable cloud backup services. Their user-friendly interfaces, robust security features, and seamless installation processes make them indispensable assets to businesses seeking efficient backup solutions.

Easy to use and navigate: Many users have praised the backup solution for its intuitive and user-friendly interface, making it easy to set up, monitor backups, and perform various tasks such as creating daily backups or performing SQL backups with just a few clicks.

Effective system recovery: The system state backups provided by the solution have been highly regarded by reviewers for their effectiveness in recovering systems and data from dead machines. This feature has proven valuable in ensuring business continuity and minimizing downtime.

Flexible restore options: Users have commended the backup solution for its flexibility in restoring files, full virtual machines, and virtual machines to different hardware. This functionality allows for seamless restoration of data while providing the necessary flexibility to adapt to changing infrastructure requirements.

Confusing Profile Management: Some users have found the profile management in Solarwinds to be confusing in certain spots, making it difficult to navigate and adjust settings. For example, they may struggle with locating specific options or understanding the purpose of certain features. Improving the organization and clarity of the profile management interface would enhance user experience.

Lack of Centralized Log Reader: Several reviewers have mentioned the lack of a centralized log reader in Solarwinds, which hinders their ability to easily locate and address issues or errors. Instead of having to search through multiple logs scattered across different sections, users would benefit from a centralized log reader that provides a comprehensive view of system logs for efficient troubleshooting.

Limited Webinars for Software Understanding: Users have expressed a desire for more webinars from Solarwinds to enhance their understanding of the software. By offering additional webinars covering various topics and functionalities, users can gain better insights into how to effectively utilize the software's features and maximize its potential benefits.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

We are an MSP, and we use Solarwinds Backup for our clients. It provides an easy solution for server and workstation backups. We mostly use and deploy it through Solarwinds NCentral. Through there we can monitor and backup all devices for a client. We do have some clients that use a stand-alone backup management system.
  • It's easy to use.
  • Offers an easy to read dashboard.
  • Profile management is confusing in some spots.
  • No centralized log reader to easily find issues.
We have used Solarwinds Backup manager for multiple clients. We backup workstations, and servers. We have used it for file recovery, disaster recovery, or movement from one device to another. With one client we performed a PC refresh. We simply applied the user's backups from their old machine to the new.

N-able Backup (formerly Solarwinds Backup) is being used in my organization and a lot of our customers.
it backups all the data in a secure server farm, and we can have all the certifications of it.
It backups the data quickly, doing intelligent increments and using the right amount of internet connection.
the number of copies maintained is high. Is a very good option
  • Backup database sql
  • Backup windows state
  • Backup all sort of data
  • compression of the data
  • immediate restore from remote dashboard
  • cheaper small business solution
  • translations
  • renewing the dashboard for more appeal, maybe some customers like a graphical renew. Is simptom of a even growing solution. Attention that it managers don't like but end users like!
I use this backup solution in a very large and different customer park,
I backup sql databases , Batch the backup session and control it with scripts.
I backup archives of adobe reader's pdf files. I backup dozens of xls excel or word doc files and also pst's of Microsoft outlook.
Is very easy to sell this cloud service as a plus of the selling of a pc or a server. Even the software can be sold with this service bundled!

We are using N-able Backup across our entire organization. It is a safe and secure option for backup.
  • Frequent backup
  • High level of customer service
  • Protecting user's data
  • Cost
  • Monitoring aspects
  • recovery failure
The integration with N-Central works pretty well. Their system for immutable backups works well. Allowing you to choose your own storage helps meet each client's budget and recovery time objectives. Jobs are managed and scheduled only by the server, not in groups. Each one must be set up, scheduled, etc. one server at a time. This can get cumbersome in a larger environment.

This is used as our primary backup solution. It is a great, safe, and fast cloud backup at a reasonable cost.
  • Office 365 Backups. Easy to setup and backs up everything.
  • Server backup. Easy setup and reliable performance.
  • Workstation/file backup. Again reliable performance and reasonable cost.
  • Nothing comes to mind.
It's suited well for any business backup needs. It wouldn't be great for a home user that has a bunch of pictures/videos they want to backup.

It made a whole difference as you can manage - all your backups from a single dashboard: create, manage and monitor all your clients within a few minutes with a single person when it took hours with our previous solutions. It saved our lives several times with cryptolockers and our accounting department went quickly back on track after having been infected.
  • Monitoring of the backups : you know exactly the status of every backup and the reason (if anything) went wrong
  • Restore: several options from bare metal to continuous restore from one VM to another one (even with different hypervisors)
  • Tech support: we had some restore issues and the techs did a really great job, spending some time to find the root of the issue (which was on our client's side)
  • Sales: the economic model is fine but could be improved, mostly regarding VMs
  • User rights could be more granular
For an MSP with lots of small clients it's a blessing as you can see all of them within a single dashboard and connect to the device from it. The pricing per device is also an great bonus as everything is included in it, no surprise when you need to restore.

The only issue would be the pricing if you are managing a lot of VMs as the price per device and the fair use policy could be an issue.

We provide Solarwinds Backup as a service to our customers, most of them in the hospitality market. Having a requirement for PCI compliance, we use Solarwinds as a second solution for cloud backups, and we use a different solution for local backups, as a way to offer redundancy to our customers. Because it is a versatile tool that could perform image backups, files and folders backups or specific database backups, it is suitable to implement in many different companies.
  • The management portal and client interfaces are web-based, which makes it convenient to set up and monitor the backups and modify configurations.
  • The solution can perform different type of backups, that could suit all customers depending on their needs: Image backups (system state) which allows customers to have an option for business continuity, Files and Folders, to select the specific data to go to the cloud, or application-specific backups for SQL, MySql, Oracle, VMWare, SharePoint, Exchange, HyperV.
  • It does have great deduplication capabilities, which does a good job compressing the data and transferring offsite.
  • The management of the device properties provides useful information like the history of the backups, audit of actions performed in the client, errors and statistics.
  • The files and folders restore in each client is simple and user friendly.
  • To perform restores on a different location, there's a need to install a standalone application call the Recovery Console, which makes it too much trouble. Instead, this should have been performed over the same backup management portal, where you should have been able to select in which location you want to restore.
  • The business continuity features, available for the system state backups, like restoring a backup as a virtual machine or performing a bare-metal restore, also require to install different standalone applications for each. And in disaster scenarios, both tasks take too much time to get everything running.
  • The retention of the backups (the archiving feature) needs to be set up individually for each server at a time, when this is something that should be more easily managed by the service provider (not expecting to be set up by the customer in each device) as a general setting within the Backups Profiles or Product Management.
  • There should be a better reporting tool, that would allow to export backup and restore events, as well as user activities.
  • The configurations for Backup Profiles and Product Management could be redundant and confusing.
For companies that have a low budget, Solarwinds Backup is a convenient tool because it provides simple cloud backup features and it can be priced based on the number of devices to backup. However, if companies expect to have business continuity for disaster scenarios, it might not be the best option.
